Jimmy Long is a resident of Natchitoches, where he is an avid supporter of Northwestern State University. Before serving eight terms of exemplary service in the Louisiana House of Representatives, he was a grocer and a cattleman. While serving Louisiana, he was well known as a strong supporter of efforts to reform and improve education in parts of the state. He is credited with locating the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts on the Northwestern campus, but has also sought to help students who are academically challenged with his support of initiatives for vocational technical studies.
Jimmy is a member of American Legion, Cattleman’s Association, Farm Bureau, Kiwanis, Natchitoches Chamber of Commerce, Northwestern State University Alumni Board and the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory.
