Carl Shetler was appointed by the Governor of Louisiana to the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System in 2008.  Shetler is a former chair of the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors and is the former chair of the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Board.

Carl is a resident of Lake Charles.  He was assistant basketball coach at McNeese State University from 1970 to 1974.
