The mission of the Gulf-South Summit on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement through Higher Education is to promote networking among practitioners, research, ethical practices, reciprocal campus-community partnerships, sustainable programs, and a culture of engagement and public awareness through service-learning and other forms of civic engagement. By awarding professional development travel grants to teams from each University of Louisiana System School, the System’s Service-Learning Council will expand institutionalization of service-learning among and between the system schools by increasing the number of faculty and staff on each campus familiar with best practices in service-learning.

ULS  Serves is offering travel grants to enable faculty and staff members from each of the University of Louisiana System Schools to travel to and attend the 2010 Gulf South Summit.  Each University’s team must be willing to attend the entire Summit and in turn offer knowledge and skills gained at the Summit to their campus peers, at a regional UL System Training, and at the ULS-Serves Conference in August 2010. Recipients must report the number of faculty members trained as a result of their training efforts.
